With the acceleration of digital transformation, there also comes an increase in cyber threats. The fundamental causes for the cybersecurity skills gap are innumerable, starting with a lack of career development and training opportunities.
According to a 2020 Cybersecurity Workforce Study conducted by ISC2, the number of cybersecurity professionals required to close the cybersecurity skills gap has shrunk from 4.07 million to 3.12 million professionals. Although this is a step in the right direction, the cybersecurity skills gap remains notable. The report's data suggests that employment in the field needs to grow by approximately 41% in the U.S. and 89% worldwide to fill the present cybersecurity skills gap.
It’s estimated that by 2022 1.8 million cybersecurity jobs will go unfilled, according to ISC2. As the cybersecurity skills gap continues to widen, outsourcers (unsurprisingly) say outsourcing is the answer. That’s one solution, but it’s not the only one.
