Gartner® named eSentire a Representative Vendor in its 2026 Market Guide for Managed Detection and Response, which states, "A list of 30 representative vendors is provided in the two tables below, separated by those vendors that have dedicated, self-developed technology offerings available for sale independently (Table 1), and those that utilize and support third-party technologies exclusively (Table 2)." In our view, the report's central finding is that AI is taking on more of the initial detection and triage work in MDR. It also states, "By 2029, 90% of initial findings from MDR providers will be processed and addressed with the support of AI models without any human action, up from 30% today." eSentire's Controlled Autonomy SecOps model, built around our AI-driven Atlas Platform paired with a human-led SOC that stays accountable for every action, we believe maps directly onto what buyers should be demanding, namely turnkey detection and response with proactive exposure identification, and transparency into what's automated versus human-reviewed.

eSentire Is a Representative Vendor in the Gartner 2026 MDR Market Guide

The Gartner 2026 Market Guide for Managed Detection and Response lists eSentire among its Representative Vendors. The report says the vendors included represent a combination of providers that meet three criteria, and the first reads, "Are consistently visible to Gartner clients (based on inquiries in the prior 18 months and through Gartner Peer Insights reviews from the prior 12 months)." The third reads, "Have a clear end-user and outcome-focused offering distinct from pure technology-driven offerings."

The report states, "Gartner estimates that more than 600 providers in this market claim to offer MDR services." In our view, that makes the outcome-focused criterion the one that carries the most weight. A Representative Vendor listing is not a Gartner endorsement of any specific provider, but we believe it places eSentire among the human-led MDR providers that buyers should be weighing against AI-only alternatives.

That distinction matters to us specifically because eSentire has spent more than 25 years building the human side of this equation, running a 24/7 SOC that today protects thousands of organizations across 35+ industries. Atlas AI is foundational and complementary to that experience.

Our Takeaways on What the Best MDR Providers Need to Get Right

We feel that the 2026 report gives buyers a specific list of what to expect from a provider, and a few of our takeaways matter most for how we operate.

In Our View, eSentire Lines Up with the Gartner® AI Findings

The number that should get every security leader's attention is the strategic planning assumption in the Gartner® report, which reads, "By 2029, 90% of initial findings from MDR providers will be processed and addressed with the support of AI models without any human action, up from 30% today." We feel the report's framing of what that requires is direct. It says, "MDR must be people-focused, human-led, AI-augmented and anchored in the evidence of the successes and outcomes it delivers."

That is the exact model eSentire deploys through Controlled Autonomy SecOps, and it works, now, in production with our customers. Atlas runs an agentic AI investigation pipeline that proposes a hypothesis and then tests and proves it the way a Tier 3 analyst would, and delivers a fully packaged and evidenced finding in minutes instead of hours. Every one of those findings is investigated by Atlas AI and checked by human before consequential actions are required. Our SOC's job has changed because of it. Analysts now spend less time triaging alerts and more time validating AI-built conclusions and the calls that need human oversight, all from an offensive mindset.

Our Threat Response Unit (TRU) is a big part of why that noise reduction is trustworthy rather than just fast. TRU researchers build and tune the detections Atlas runs at scale, so the alerts AI triages reflect original threat research rather than a generic ruleset that every vendor licenses from the same feed.

What doesn't move to AI is the decision that carries business consequences. Isolating a production server or locking out an executive's account requires context about the business that a model doesn't have, and so does escalating an incident to legal and the board. That is the layer our SOC owns, and it's the same layer we believe Gartner is protecting when it insists MDR stay human-led as automation scales. Our average analyst tenure of six years is part of why that layer holds up, because the people making those calls have seen the pattern before.

Where We Believe eSentire Already Matches the Report's Takeaways

Mapped against the report's own findings, here is how we believe we line up.

What This Means If You're Reading the Report

If you're evaluating MDR providers against this year's Gartner report, or benchmarking the one you already have, we feel these questions are worth asking any provider on your list, eSentire included.

  1. What percentage of your findings are AI-processed today, and what's your roadmap as that ratio climbs?
  2. Are containment actions driven by prebuilt instructions your security team defines, or is the AI figuring out the response as it goes? And how does that map to the internal incident response process?
  3. Can you show outcomes, not just technology, for exposure identification and mitigation?
