Acquisition expands Atlas with inline AI security and auditing, giving enterprises out-of-the-box complete AI security, visibility, threat screening, and response actions
September 15, 2026 | 4 MINS READ
Waterloo, Ontario – September 15, 2026 – eSentire, a leader in Controlled Autonomy SecOps, today announced the company has acquired a stealth-mode AI security startup, fully incorporating its product and technology into the eSentire Atlas Platform as Atlas AIDR. This new module within Atlas Detect gives security teams a complete real-time record of AI activity across their estate – including the full conversation timeline, every tool call with its inputs and outputs, token and cost accounting, latency, and any security events – all attributed to a user, team, and workstation. The Atlas Platform is vendor-agnostic and AIDR continues this commitment, capturing and governing AI activity, and complements the existing endpoint, SIEM, and security tooling customers have already chosen.
AI is becoming ubiquitous in enterprise organizations. Seventy-six percent of employees now use AI at work, up from 30% two years ago, according to McKinsey. Today, most organizations lack visibility into the basic questions around AI in their environment: who is using AI, what data AI is accessing, where is the data going, and what the cost is, leaving critical gaps with zero audit-ready documentation. The new Atlas AIDR platform module closes that gap. For browser-based AI use, such as an employee using a web-based AI assistant, Atlas can provide visibility through existing telemetry. This means that shadow-AI use is seen and inventoried, rather than the granular, inline control applied at the desktop layer through Atlas AIDR.
Within Atlas Detect, the AIDR module delivers:
"Every enterprise is racing to put AI to work, and almost none of them can tell you what their AI agents are doing with their proprietary data, or what they cost," said James C. Foster, chief executive officer, eSentire. "That is a critical accountability and security gap and is exactly the kind of problem eSentire solves for our customers every day. We acquired the security startup team and product and shipped their technology inside Atlas in weeks. That is the difference between a platform and a portfolio: when we buy something, our customers get it. And we do it without forcing anyone to rip and replace — Atlas AIDR can also work with the AI providers and security tools our customers have already chosen. This positions eSentire to lead in securing the AI-driven vendor-independent enterprise rather than react to it."
"You can delegate work to AI. You can't delegate accountability," said Nim Nadarajah, CISO and managing partner, CriticalMatrix, an eSentire partner. "Our clients need more than an AI policy — they need a clear record of what their agents are accessing and the ability to enforce boundaries. Atlas AIDR puts that control into practice, because governance has to work in the business, not just look good in a board report."
This acquisition builds on a period of rapid platform expansion for eSentire. In June 2026, eSentire launched Atlas Preempt, bringing continuous, AI-led autonomous penetration testing and attack path validation to customers, followed in July by Atlas Response, email security, and patch management, unifying detection, response, and remediation in a single platform. eSentire was named a Leader in the 2026 IDC MarketScape for Worldwide MDR Services for the midmarket and brings 25 years of SOC expertise to more than 2,000 organizations across more than 80 countries, protecting over two million endpoints.
