This isn't a thought experiment. I've seen versions of this story play out in boardrooms over the past year. Toward the end of 2025 we saw almost this exact scenario occur between industry-leading audit, consulting, tax and advisory services firm Deloitte and the Australian government. The incident made news headlines around the globe.
In one organisation I advised, an intern built an AI-powered intake form to "speed up triage." In production, it flagged a senior customer's issue as low priority because the language was "too polite"—a bug that cost them the account. These tools are easy to use, but dangerously hard to verify. The pace of disruption has outstripped the pace of comprehension. AI isn't something your technical teams will quietly handle in the background; it's becoming the foreground—shaping strategy, communications and, most importantly, trust.
The Current Moment

My Perspective
I didn't approach the AI space looking for another buzzword to chase. I began working on it because my life's work has always been focused on helping people secure what matters—and right now, everything is changing. Over my career I've worked across security operations, architecture, product management and corporate strategy - all with a focus on delivering high value security outcomes to thousands of businesses. I've led technical teams, advised executives and lived through enough post-mortems to recognise the signs of a coming wave. When generative AI entered the world, I didn't see a new toy. I saw a systemic shift.
I've spent the last few years embedded in that shift as the leader of a team that focuses on how to think about and apply new technologies to accomplish security and business transformations. Since ChatGPT dropped a few years ago, we've been helping build secure AI workflows. Teaching teams how to use language models responsibly. Investigating incidents where things went off the rails. And—most importantly—translating that experience into patterns and insights others can use. What I offer here isn't theory. It's what I've seen work under pressure.
