Wireless networking is still an emerging technology; as such it presents unusual security challenges requiring specific expertise and attention. When dealing specifically with wireless networking vulnerabilities and risk analysis, it is critical to address categories of intruders and classes of attacks. Briefly, there are typically three types of intruders: Unintentional, Opportunistic, and Targeted.
eSentire will assess the security and strength of an existing wireless network configuration for the Client. A wide array of wireless equipment is used to support retail activity and the assessment includes:
1) Analysis of exploit vectors involving all three intruders and the three types of attacks:
Passive, Segment-Directed, and Full Compromise.
2) Capture and analysis of traffic.
3) Use of wireless tools in an attempt to gauge the infrastructure security level.
4) Report presented describing the findings.
The resulting report includes Hardening, Monitoring, and Enforcement recommendations to integrate into the planned infrastructure. These measures include specific hardening procedures, hardware positioning, intrusion detection, and countermeasures. In addition to these Best Practices, we will include what we consider to be the “Minimum Wireless Security Standard”. This is a description of what security measures must be implemented to ensure a basic measure of wireless security.
